I think Bryn Greenwood nailed the title with this one. It truly is ugly and wonderful at the same time. I honestly don’t know what else to say about this book, it just has to be read and experienced because it forces you to examine all your own feelings and morals. It pushes you to your very limits, makes you cringe, makes you cry, makes you feel feelings I don’t even know the name for. Disgusted is one of them. Sad is one. Compassion is another. How can one book make you feel so – many – things.

Not only that, but it is beautifully written. Everything just flows so perfectly. Skimming is a bad habit of mine, but I didn’t skim once. I savored every word Bryn Greenwood had to share in the story of Wavy, her family and Kellen. It is by far the most tragic book I have ever read, but with the most hope, love and magical spirit. Sometimes I think sad and weird stories like this can come of with a pinch of self pity. Not this one. Not at all.
I usually quote passages I like. This time I finished the book and realized I had been so into it that I hadn’t marked a single passage or word. I think it’s because nothing in this book can be taken out of context. You need the context, you need the whole story or it’s a puzzle with pieces missing. I don’t have any quotes, but you can quote me on this: If you can only read one book this year, let this be the one.
